This article will explain how to use two-factor authentication in PARiM:

1. What is two-factor authentication?

You are normally required to enter only your email address and password when signing into PARiM; however, if you enable two-factor authentication, you are also required to enter a time-based one-time password (TOTP).

This is an additional security measure to stop someone else from signing in to your account even if they know your email address and password.

2. How to set up two-factor authentication?

Web portal

  1. Click on your name in the top-right corner

  2. Select "My Profile"

  3. Click on "Two-factor authentication":

You will be prompted to choose a method of authentication - either a code-generator app (e.g Google Authenticator) or SMS*.

The code-generator app is the preferred option if you have a smartphone. If you don't have a smartphone, you could use the SMS option*.

*Your employer has to have the SMS functionality enabled for this

Mobile app

  1. Select "More" in the bottom-right corner

  2. Select "Two-factor authentication"

  3. Enable "Two-factor authentication":

You will be prompted to choose a method of authentication - either a code-generator app (e.g Google Authenticator) or SMS*.

Note that it's not possible to set up two-factor authentication from the PARiM mobile app if the "Shared device" option has been enabled; however, you will still be able to do it from the web portal.

3. How to disable two-factor authentication?

You can only disable two-factor authentication using the same method you used to enable it i.e if you used SMS, two-factor authentication can only be disabled using an SMS code and if you used a code-generator app, two-factor authentication can only be disabled using a code-generator app code.

If you are unable to retrieve the code using the steps below for some reason, you have to contact your employer so they can disable two-factor authentication for you.

Web portal

  1. Click on your name in the top-right corner

  2. Select "My Profile"

  3. Click on "Two-factor authentication"

  4. Enter the code to disable two-factor authentication

Mobile app
